Sophie Foster

Pronunciation: So-fee Fos-ter
Eye color: Brown

Sophie is the main character of the Keeper of the Lost Cities series—a girl caught between two worlds, struggling to fit in and still live up to the complicated role she was created for. Her numerous abilities are shockingly powerful—especially for someone her age—and she has a tendency to see things differently than everyone else, in large part because of her human upbringing. She’s also fierce and brave, and never backs down from what she believes is right. And while she may have been an outcast among humans, in the Lost Cities she’s surrounded by friends and family—which is good because she also has some incredibly powerful enemies and needs all the help she can get.

Fitz Vacker

Pronunciation: Fits Vack-er
Eye Color: Teal

Fitz is the golden boy from the famously important family who spent years secretly helping his dad search for Sophie in the human world. He’s a talented Telepath—though not *quite* as powerful as Sophie is. He’s a loyal brother, a model prodigy, and tends to earn his nickname, “Wonderboy” (despite the fact that Dex meant the name sarcastically). And even though he’s two grade levels ahead of Sophie, Fitz cares about her more than she knows (more than he knows, honestly). Maybe it’s because he saw how hard it was for Sophie to leave her human life behind, or because she’s close in age to his younger sister, but he feels a special connection with Sophie, and does everything he can to keep her happy and safe.

Biana Vacker

Pronunciation: Bee-ah-nuh Vack-er
Eye Color: Teal

Biana may seem like the Princess of Foxfire Academy—but don’t let the perfect hair and fashionable clothes fool you. Beneath the make-up and perfectly coordinated accessories is a fearless fighter. And while she may not have manifested her special ability when we first meet her, that never stops her from taking on Fitz and Keefe in a game of base quest, (and no, it’s not just because she thinks Keefe is cute—though that definitely *does* help). She’s also an incredibly loyal friend—once she gets to know someone—and will do whatever it takes to protect the people she cares about.

Dex Dizznee

Pronunciation: Dex Diz-nee
Eye color: Periwinkle

Dex immediately becomes Sophie’s best friend, and takes it upon himself to help her find her way through her complicated new world. He doesn’t have a special ability when Sophie meets him, but she can tell he’s incredibly talented—especially at alchemy—despite the fact that many people unfairly underestimate both him and his family. A true prankster at heart, he always does what he can to make Sophie laugh—though sometimes he wishes he could make her feel something … more. Hard as he tries to hide it, he can’t help having a huge crush on her, and is less-than-thrilled to find himself in a competition with Fitz—and maybe Keefe—to gain Sophie’s attention.

Keefe Sencen

Pronunciation: Keef Sen-sin
Eye Color: Ice blue

Keefe is Foxfire Academy’s ultimate troublemaker—though of course he claims he had nothing to do with “The Great Gulon Incident.” Confident and cute, with infamously awesome hair, he’s always ready with a joke—whether the situation calls for it or not. But those close to him know that his smiles often hide the heavier things he’s struggling with, like his less-than-awesome family. He’s Fitz’s best friend, but he also feels a strong connection to Sophie—and not just because he loves teasing her. His ability as an Empath allows him to read her feelings, which makes him understand her in ways no one else can. And he’s always there when she needs him, even if he sometimes makes questionable decisions.

Tam Song

Pronunciation: Tam Song
Eye Color: Silver blue

We don’t meet Tam until partway through the series, because he lives in a different part of the Lost Cities—a colder, harsher place where those who’ve been banished struggle to survive. And he endures all of it to protect his twin sister, Linh. He may like hiding behind his jagged bangs—which he dipped in silver to protest his parents’ cruel choice—but that doesn’t mean he’s not willing to speak his mind. And with his darkly mysterious power, he’s a valuable ally for Sophie and her friends, once he decides he’s willing to trust them.

Linh Song

Pronunciation: Lin Song
Eye Color: Silver Blue

Linh may be the soft spoken, easily blushing counterpart to her twin brother’s surly moods—but that doesn’t make her any less of a force to be reckoned with. In fact, she’s one of the most powerful characters in the series—which sometimes causes problems for her. But she’s moved beyond her days of being the Girl of Many Floods and is ready and willing to prove her incredible control whenever the need arises, whether it be with awe-inspiring tricks or life-saving rescues.

Wylie Endal

Pronunciation: Why-lee En-dahl
Eye Color: Bright Blue

He may seem like he only plays a small role at the beginning of the series, but Wylie is the kind character who sneaks up on you, becoming more and more important with each book. He’s older than Sophie and her friends—already in the elite levels in Foxfire. And thanks to some heartbreaking things in his past, he sometimes struggles with the choices Sophie is forced to make. But deep down he knows she’s trying her best. And he never gives up hope that someday the broken parts of his life will finally be fixed.

Jensi Babblos

Pronunciation: Jen-see Bab-los
Eye Color: True blue

Jensi Babblos is the coolest guy at school. He’s just still trying to make everyone realize that—not that he has any problem making friends! He has tons of friends. And he was practically the first person at Foxfire to meet the great Sophie Foster—even gave her a nickname and showed her how to find her sessions. He’s also basically the leader of his usual group of dudes. And yes, he knows he has a tendency to talk a lot—but that’s just because he has tons of super interesting things to say. Someday people will realize that!

Marella Redek

Pronunciation: Mare-el-uh Red-ik
Eye Color: Ice Blue

Marella hates nicknames. Don’t even think about calling her Mare or Ella. And don’t expect her to like you, because she’ll probably think you’re annoying. Most people are—which is why she’s perfectly content sitting by herself at lunch. But sometimes she’ll make an exception if someone seems like they might be remotely interesting —like Sophie Foster. Anyone who can cause as much drama and chaos as Sophie can is definitely Marella’s style. Especially since Sophie’s also friends with some super cute boys. Marella will always make time for super cute boys. She’s also excellent at keeping up with the latest gossip—but don’t you dare talk about her family!

Stina Heks

Pronunciation: Stee-nuh Hex
Eye Color: Navy blue

Stina can be hard to like, and she prefers it that way. She’s not looking to be Miss Popular because most people aren’t worth her time—and someone should definitely think twice before they mess with her. Especially Dex. Sure, her family’s had a few scandals over the years—but that doesn’t change how important they are. After all, they’re single-handedly making sure unicorns remain a thriving species—and Stina’s a huge part of that. Maybe it’s not as fancy as the Vackers, but who cares about the Vackers, anyway? That family has gone majorly downhill since they started wasting so much time on Sophie Foster—and don’t even get Stina started on Sophie. As far as Stina’s concerned, Sophie Foster is the most overrated thing to hit Foxfire since the boring Great Gulon Incident.

Maruca

Pronunciation: Mah-roo-ka
Eye Color: Turquoise

Maruca thought she knew who her friends were—but then Biana had to go and get too busy with Sophie Foster to hang out anymore. And then Stina had to go and blab a bunch of things she’d told her in confidence and make a big mess. Thank goodness for her family—her family is awesome. Especially her cousin, Wylie. She’d do anything for him. Well, almost anything. She won’t let him tell her what to do—but nobody gets to do that. She can handle herself. And people need her help.
